My "Real" Blog

Friday, March 23, 2007

So, after I realized no one was looking at this duplicate blog, I decided to just stop copy/pasting posts over here. Not worth the time or effort.

So, if you want to check out my full blog, you can:

Hi! My name is "Angelica"!

Tuesday, January 30, 2007

Just wanted to introduce myself. For those of you who don't know me... I'm "Angelica Corcorin". Or, that's what you'll see if you look at the Deaf Conference flier that went out not too long ago. Yeah, I'm the "Angelica Corcorin" that you'll see listed as "Guest Speakers" right underneath Jan and Robin's names.

The guy who designed them is someone I know. He promised that he knew for sure that "Angelica" was my name even though the lady who was working with him was asking him if he was sure it wasn't "Angela". But "No," he says.. "I KNOW her. It's Angelica Corcorin."

I can't wait to see him and tease him about that one!

Wow. Cracks me up!

My Weekend Pictoral Review

Monday, January 29, 2007

Friday Night, Eddie and I took my mom (and dad) out to Ruth's Chris Steak House for her birthday. My carbs and veggies were delicious... ;)

Happy Birthday/Happy You're-finished-with-chemo-and-can-eat-steak-now, Mom!

My very yummy "Ruth's Chop Salad" - minus the bacon

Saturday Afternoon, I went out to Rutherford Grill in Napa Valley with my sister, brother-in-law, mom and dad. My sister had promised my mom a nice meal out for part of her Christmas present. It happened to land at her birthday time, so we had to have a little more birthday celebration while we were there.

Rutherford Grill makes their own Veggie Burger patty, so I had to get it. It was delicious! I was quite impressed and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

More birthday celebrations with dessert to share. A homemade oreo ice cream sandwich and banana cream pie. Both were amazing!

Saturday night, we took Eddie's dad (and family) out for his birthday. (He and my mom happen to share the same birthday, so we always have a fun time keeping busy on that weekend every year). He wanted Claim Jumper, so we all took off. I didn't take a lot of pictures while there... But I did take a couple of randoms.

Let the eating begin!!!

This is birthday weekend for us. My Father In Law and my Mom's birthday are both today (Happy Birthday Mom!)... And, this means birthday dinners galore! Tonight, we're taking Mom out to a very nice steak place whose location cannot be disclosed for the highly confidential nature - oh whatever - It's a surprise for Mom.

We decided to take her to a nice steak dinner because during her chemo, she wasn't allowed to have any sort of steak that wasn't completely cooked through. So, this is really sort of a "Happy Birthday"/"Happy you are done with chemo and can eat steak" meal.

Tomorrow, I'm going out with the family again for lunch to Rutherford Grill in Napa. My sister's present to my Mom (actually Christmas present, but I won't get into that story). And tomorrow night, we're going out with Eddie's family to take his dad out.

That's a lot of food in a short period of time!

The anti-black/anti-brown shoe post

So here we are... Once again, in very typical "Angela" form, I'm back on the whole shoe subject. I went shopping last night with a friend and ended up with another very fun pair of shoes. My intent of this post was to find a picture online to share with you... However... I couldn't find them anywhere online! So, you'll have to be patient and wait until I find a good one. Until then, you just have to trust that they're adorable. :)

But to keep you occupied in the meantime, I went browsing for more shoes. I've decided that every pair of shoes I buy need to be funky and fun colors. I know, you're already thinking that my clothes have color already, but still... I'm sick of brown, black, etc. So, here's my post on non-brown and black shoes. :)

"Cristan" by Steve Madden

I've been eyeballing these shoes for a while. I know they are technically Marc Jacobs knock-offs... But the price is right at $55.99 and I don't wear heels/wedges that often for it to matter much. I like it best in gray.

"Baby Steps" by Irregular Choice

I don't know if I could pull them off, but I really like them in a funky sort of way...

"Midge" by Farylrobin

I also find these retro pumps to be kinda fun. I love the retro!

"Rosetta" by REPORT

And these... Well, these I just put here to see how white you could turn when I scared you with them.... I found them under the "80s inspired" section. Who would pay $172.95 for these? Eek. That's all I can say - eek!

The Lemon Cupcakes that Wouldn't Be

Tuesday, January 23, 2007

I went to the grocery store... I had everything - even the home-grown lemons from a friend's house. And, most of all, my tongue was all prepared to taste and devour a lemon cupcake. I was going to make the Magnolia cupcake recipe and fill it with homemade lemon curd, topped with lemon buttercream frosting. (Sounds good doesn't it???)I even made the mess - pulled all the pans out, recipes, whisks, spoons, etc. Yet, the day continued to be an "cosmos is off" kind of day for me.

I measured my flour and came a bit short, so I opened my new bag of flour and dumped it in my flour container and finished off the measurement. Then, I turned to melt my butter in the microwave. By now there is quite a mess with flour on the counter, and butter wrappers laying around. And when I turn back to my flour bowl, I see bugs crawling on my counter. I freaked and started killing them. But I couldn't figure out where they came from. I finally discovered they were in my brand spanking new bag of flour! So, I cleaned everything up, dumped the new flour, sealed it up and put it in the garage, and cleaned up my mess.

Of course, I don't have any other bags of flour laying around and it's 10pm at night. So, no lemon curd filled cupcakes for me... or you... Instead, I just have a mess in the kitchen sink and nothing to show for it except this blog and a bag of buggy flour in the garage.

All hail the great aerobics instructor!

The cosmos was off or something today...

I walked into the gym early and got ready to work out. It's cold outside but it was really really warm on the group fitness floor area. Really warm. And we hadn't even started working out yet. That was my first indication that things were going to be "off" today.

So, we start our warm-up and get through that okay. Then, it's time for the second set... The second half is a jump a v-step, jump into a squat, jump back out to a v-step then step down.

Ok... Well, me jumping up on the step apparently wasn't meant to be. Instead of being the Michael Jordan of step class, my shoes filled with lead. I didn't jump quite high enough and the toes of my shoes clipped the step. Before I realized it, I had landed draped over the step with my arms spread out in front of me... Bowing to the instructor.

My instructor, me and others in the class had quite a laugh and it took a while to get back into the groove of the rest of things. At least I didn't sprain my ankle again on the front row like I did about 1.5 years ago! Instead, I gracefully fell to the ground in a nice worshipful bow.

Sheena - You missed it! LOL!

I feel like a moron

Monday, January 22, 2007

I planned this fun little sushi get together outing with a couple of friends for tonight. There's just about 3 of us getting together and I planned for all of us to go to Matsuri in Vallejo (very yummy!) As I was driving home, the thought occured to me that some sushi places are closed on Mondays. So, I called them to find out for sure.

Yep... Closed on Mondays. So, now I'm sitting here trying to figure out what to do and how I'm going to get ahold of these girls - none of which I have cell phone numbers for. I've emailed them and am waiting... If I don't hear back soon, I'll go down to the closed sushi place and wait for them. Then, we can figure out what to do.

So much for my trying to be organized... I feel like a moron.

Antique birdie box & The deformed lemon

Antique Birdie Box
My mom and I went for a walk yesterday, downtown Benicia. I stopped in at an antique shop and picked up this adorable paper mache box with hand-painted birds on it. It has some writing on the inside that says "Syeed Arts. Paper Machie Markers. Rhayam Chowk Sravagar." Whatever that means...

My favorite birdie is the green one on the side. I'm going to put this up on my mantle. It's a start my random antique collection of mini things, since there's not a lot of space to put things up there.

The Deformed Lemon
My friend, Crystal, gave me some lemons off her tree.... Of course, my favorite is the deformed one. I don't want to use it because it looks too cool.

Just in time for Valentine's Day

If I got you hungry for some Chocolate Souffle or something really yummy and chocolaty... Here's my favorite ultimate chocolate treat. Try it!

Molten Chocolate Cakes

But if you don't have time to actually make it from scratch, you can always get The Mix from Williams-Sonoma for just $25 (which I've heard is quite good). Or... For you really busy people out there who either don't have any extra time at all, you're lazy, or you're a failure in the kitchen (hehe - I'm just kidding... I know none of you are failures in the kitchen), there's The Batter that you can order online for just $39.

It would be even cuter if you'd put it in a heart-shaped ramekin like these from Target. And it's only $10 for two of them! Since you'll likely only need 2 and will only use them once a year, Target would be perfect. But if you want a little more quality and color to spice things up, Cuisinart has a cute red and white set of two for just $15.

But with something that cute, there's no way you can serve them on any old plate... I think this one from Crate and Barrel would be just perfect.

Serve your coffee with your molten chocolate cakes in these adorable Hugs-n-Kisses mugs from Sur La Table.

And to finish up your perfect dinner, clean up with this Vintage style "Be Mine" towel that becomes a little reminder for your sweetheart.

Fun!

Gym Guilt

I didn't go to the gym today. Gasp!

I stayed up until about 2:30 last night and there was no way I was going to drag myself out of the bed to be at 8am step class or even the 8:45 weight class! So, I slept. And slept. Until about 9:45. It felt good... Until the guilt set in.

You know how people talk about "Catholic Guilt"? I have "Gym Guilt". I can already feel my muscle mass disintegrating as I type. Maybe if I sleep with my head on my "Shape" magazine, I'll absorb some of the fitness in my sleep. haha.

Sorry Gym... Forgive me... Tuesday I will repent and turn from my gym-less ways.

Dinner was yummy

We went to dinner at Bing Crosby's downtown Walnut Creek tonight. We've been talking about going there for a long time, but it never quite worked out. So, tonight, when Eddie said he wanted to take me out on a date, we decided to finally just do it and go.

They had really yummy food. I was pleased with the atmosphere, the live jazz in the bar area and the service. The pianist who was playing tonight was absolutely amazing, and the female vocalist with him had a soothing voice. She was singing all the classics. I wished I could join in, but I didn't think our neighbors would have appreciated that very much.

It also helps that I am quite a fan of all things in that era - the music, the clothing, and the shoes. We were seated at a window on the street with a nice view of 7 Eleven (haha) and we were right under a fabulous shot of Bing Crosby his (I assume) wife, Frank Sinatra and his wife (?) and one other man. I kept thinking how cool would it have been to lived in that era so I could do my hair in the big pin curls around the face. And then it dawned on me that I do that anyway. :)

I was surprised at how tight quarters the restaurant was. Not the actual dimensions... It held a lot of people... But they stuffed people in every square inch of the place! Some of the tables were practically on top of each other and we had to squeeze to get through the tables to sit down. But, I guess that means they're popular.

I was tempted to don a fedora at the front door. They had a display of fedoras of all different styles for purchase. I love a nice fedora if worn just right. Seeing the hats along with reading the biography/history of Bing Crosby made me want to go and research him a little more. I believe he can take a significant amout of credit for crossing racial barriers in the music industry. Yay for him!

It was a slow dinner - we got there at 8:15 for our reservations and didn't leave until well past 10. I got a delicious (virgin) rasberry mojito that was pretty good - strong (i.e, not sweet) - but good. We ended the meal with a tasty chocolate souffle. The waiter talked it up quite a bit, so we decided to give it a try... But, if I can be so big-headed to say... I make a better one. They overcooked theirs just a big. But it still had great chocolaty flavor, and when you put some ice cream with it, it was still quite delicious.

Thanks, Eddie for the night out! I'd say let's do it more often, but that'd end up breaking the bank... So, I'll enjoy the memories for now and we can do it again sometime in the future when we've built the 'out to eat' fund back up. ;)

Seaters

Eddie's car's in the shop, so we have a loaner from the dealer to drive over the weekend until we get his car back... It's super cool with satillite radio, dual air control, and much more.

Tonight, we took off to dinner in Walnut Creek. I, in typical Angela form, was an ice cube. Frozen through. So, I happily upped my side to 82 degrees and decided to turn on the seat warmers.

I proceeded to tell Eddie how cool it was to have the seat warmers, but it didn't quite come out like that... It came out like this: "This car is cool because it has seaters". Yeah. You heard right. "Seaters."

Does your car have Seaters? ;)

Blogging

Well, I think I've decided to start copying my blogs over here... I know a lot of people who use Blogger instead of LiveJournal, so I figured it might be easier for them to read them here. I know other people who keep two identical blogs... It's just a matter of copy/paste, so I think I might try it (hopefully I remember to). :)

My "Other" Blog

Thursday, October 12, 2006

My active blog is on LiveJournal... The reason for it was because I wanted to be able to do a friends/family only blog and categorize my posts, etc, etc. However, I just find out that the Blogger Beta (that will soon not be beta any more) just finally got the features that made me NOT go with them in the first place...

- Private blog for just your friends to read
- Tags to categorize your posts

I totally wanted to go with Blogger (cuz I like the interface better), but didn't because of the missing things above. I went with LiveJournal instead... And here they have it - only 2.5 months later after I started mine.

Pooey.

Feel free to read my other blog. It will keep you busy for a while!
